Islands outside major groups : Crete Welcome to More Islands in Greek waters. In splitting up the Greek islands into its major groups some arbitrary decisions may have to be taken (especially the large area of the North Aegean where some islands are closer to the Cyclades, Sporades or Saronic Gulf than their nearest N. Aegean neighbours). Although there are a number of tiny islands that sit away from any of the major groups, these are frequently uninhabited or very tiny and impractical for the tourist to visit. The notable exeption to this comment is, of cuorse, Crete. Crete is by far the largest of all the Greek islands and also the most southerly one. |
